Haven's First Christmas

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!  We had a great time celebrating Christmas together at home with our little family.  It was the first Christmas we haven't been with one of our families and although it was different, it's fun to start new traditions as a family.  Here is a picture recap of our Christmas.

If you follow me on instagram [@leahbraly] then you may have seen a post about the tree below.  Unfortunately this pitiful tree only stayed at our house a day before she was returned to Home Depot.  Before going to bed the night before, I told Ben that we needed to go over the weekend to pick out our tree.  I told him I thought we should get a smaller tree this year because I figured it would be tough to keep Haven away from the tree.  I envisioned a family trip to the tree farm with cute family pictures being taken to document the event.  Bless his heart... Ben went on his lunch break the next day and bought this "beauty". When he brought it home I busted out laughing.  Not quite what I had imagined when I said small.  I so appreciate his thoughtfulness and heart behind this little ol' tree.  But, when we woke up in the morning and it was already turning brown and had lost several needles I wasn't sad at all to see it head back to home depot to get returned.

Christmas morning I woke up early and made a yummy cinnamon role casserole.  Finally at 9:30 I couldn't handle the excitement and I went and woke up Ben.  Haven slept in too which never happens.  I know it won't be many more years before she is begging to open presents at 5am!

Sweet girl doesn't quite get the opening presents concept yet.  She watched daddy and was happy to attempt to eat the wrapping paper that she enjoyed ripping to shreds.

Ben and I talked about Christmas with kids a lot before Haven entered the picture.  We both have such sweet childhood memories of Christmas!  One reoccurring theme as we've talked about Christmas as a family has been that we want to keep the focus on Jesus and make it less about the presents.  We decided to give three gifts each year to Haven and our future kiddos.  The wise men brought three gifts for Jesus and so we are starting with that... Who knows, maybe things will change as the years go on, but right now that is the plan.  And we certainly are not passing judgement here for families who do things differently - different strokes for different folks!

We spent the afternoon with friends eating and playing board games.  It was a wonderful and quiet Christmas!!
